Hammocks or loungers in Mexico, what is the difference?
Summer is approaching and I want to get a hammock. I've been to Mexico and saw them there, but never took one. Now I am in search of a hammock, and I find myself with two hammocks and Mayan hammocks from Mexico when searching. I want one of the colors I saw when I was in Mexico.
Mayan hammocks dating back thousands of years. The original Mayan hammocks were made from the bark tissue Harnack "tree", hence the hammock common name. Like most things in human development that is developed as a means of providing comfort, security and relaxation. A Mayan hammock always a place for people to sit while socializing and for day to day. Hammocks also allowed users to store goods outside of rodents and pests in the night, and a way of transporting goods. At night, always a dream Mayan hammocks comfortable and security by protecting the sleeper from soil inhabitants, and raise a person above the water and other unsanitary conditions. With Europeans Spanish entering Mexico, the Mayan culture, as Native U.S. were marginalized. The most recent arrivals from Europe to Mexico often mixed with the Maya. Despite the promises of the New World, the people of New Mexico remains poor, even in the 20th century. Just as often the case, the new co-opted many newly arrivals of inventions including Mayan hammock. So what was originally an invention Maya – Mayan hammock – the post-colonial, Mexicans also use sunbeds transformed domain and Mexican hammocks. As the domination of Mexican culture grew and diminished the Maya, the Mayan invention was labeled as a piece of Mexican culture and became known as hammocks from Mexico. If there is a distinction to be made today between the 2 types is that a Mayan hammock would be done by hand by a Mayan descendant often in small Mayan villages of Yucatan. A Mexican hammock would be performed by a descendant of Europeans using exactly the same fabric style and methods of the indigenous Mayans.
