Why does the president rule out Tort reform?
One of the biggest reasons insurance companies have such high premiums is that they have to cover huge malpractice claims.
I say we tax any malpractice claim above 300,000 (or something close) 85%, and lower claims at lower percentages, that way people would be discouraged to sue for too much, and the government would be able to collect money for medicare.
This would increase quality of care because doctors would not be afraid of using aggressive treatment.
This would lower the cost of overall care because more people would become doctors, thus lowering the market for them (for anybody who knows economics).
This does not disenfranchise those were hurt by bad treatment because they will receive payment based how the injury affected their economical situation.
Thoughts?
I agree. But politicians are all attorneys, which means they have no incentive to make laws that would help others — only laws that help attorneys.
