Duty Tarp Silver
Tarps are often described as a sheet with many uses, but the various uses of a tarp are determined on what it’s made out of. For example, many tarps used outdoors are made out of polyethylene, and treated to have various protective properties, and these are usually the strongest for sheltering objects outdoors. But even poly tarps are made in different ways, with both heavy and medium-duty options on the market for varying uses. Polyethylene isn’t the only tarp material out there, and other protective tarps exist, as well. Other common materials used include vinyl, polypropylene, and canvas, and each of these tarps has a different use.
Heavy-duty tarps are often associated with outdoor uses. In fact, most portable garages and outdoor portable shelters use a heavy-duty tarp as the roof and for the sides. Why does a heavy-duty poly tarp protect objects outside so well? The heavy-duty factor, first and foremost, allows the material to be strong, and this is essentially a fourteen by fourteen denier count. The material is also treated to be waterproof, UV resistant, mildew, and rot resistant, as well as fire retardant according to California fire codes. When an object is going to be outside for several months at a time, be it a car, RV, or bales of hay, a heavy-duty poly tarp is the most protective and reliable for your investment.
Another type of poly tarp is medium-duty, and, while white and silver are colors generally associated with heavy-duty poly tarps, blue is associated with medium-duty. Medium duty tarps include hurricane tarps but, generally, any object not needing to stay outside for a prolonged period of time can be protected with a medium-duty polyethylene tarp. In addition, although this type of tarp has a ten by ten denier count, the material is still treated to be waterproof, UV resistant, mildew resistant, and rot resistant, as well as fire retardant.
Not all tarps on the market are made from polyethylene, and other materials commonly used include canvas, vinyl, and polypropylene. Canvas tarps have both indoor uses, while vinyl tarps are also used for heavy-duty and long-term outdoor coverage, especially for that of a large area like a construction side. Polypropylene tarps, on the other hand, are often mesh tarps, which allow 25-percent of light through. Although mesh tarps can be used outdoors, they’re more specifically used as garden tarps for low light plants. As tarps have a number of indoor and outdoor uses, owning a few to protect your investments or to be prepared for a hurricane is best for planning ahead for weather.
